In August 2025, the United States successfully tested the B61-12 tactical thermonuclear bomb without using a nuclear warhead.
According to a US government website, the test was conducted at the Tonopah Test Range in Nevada between August 19 and 21.
The bomb, which is part of the United States’ tactical nuclear arsenal, was tested without fissile material in this test to assess its technical performance and safety.
