Ahmed Al-Sharaa (Jolani) arrives in the US to meet with Trump

Ahmed al-Sharaa, known as Abu Muhammad al-Julani, the President of the Syrian Transitional Government, arrived in Washington on Saturday evening (November 8, 2025) on his first official visit to the United States to meet with US President Donald Trump.

The trip took place a day after Al-Sharaa was removed from the US terrorist list after 13 years.

The US State Department announced that this action was taken due to “progress and positive changes by Syrian leaders,” and that the UN Security Council had previously lifted sanctions against Sharia.

Al-Sharaa is scheduled to meet with Trump at the White House on Monday, November 10, and sign an agreement for Syria to join the US-led anti-ISIS coalition.

This is Al-Shara’s second trip to the United States after attending the UN General Assembly in September, but it is his first official visit to Washington.

Previously, the United States had set a $10 million reward for the capture of Golani, but after he came to power in Damascus, Washington’s policy changed and sanctions against Syria were lifted.
