Major achievement of American researchers: Blood test to detect 50 types of cancer before symptoms appear

In a revolutionary breakthrough, American researchers have developed an advanced blood test called Galleri that can detect more than 50 types of cancer with high accuracy before any symptoms appear.

The results of the large PATHFINDER 2 study, one of the largest cancer screening studies in the United States, presented at the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO), show that the test actually confirmed the presence of cancer in about two-thirds of positive cases.

Data suggests that Galleri minimizes the chance of false positives in healthy individuals and pinpoints the exact location of the tissue or organ involved in cancer in 92 percent of cases.

In this study, more than 23,000 volunteers without symptoms of cancer from the United States and Canada were followed for at least one year.

Of these, cancer signals were detected in the blood in 216 people, and the diagnosis was correctly confirmed in 133 people, or 61.6 percent.
