Pentagon summons top US military officials from around the world for rare, unexplained meeting in Virginia
US Defense Secretary Pete Hegsett has ordered the country’s top military officials, including hundreds of generals and admirals from around the world, to gather at the Quantico Marine Corps Base in Virginia next week.
This sudden order, issued without giving a reason, has caused confusion and concern among military leaders.
According to Reuters, this rare gathering, which involves the simultaneous presence of senior officials in one place, has little precedent in the Pentagon, and even high-ranking generals are unaware of its purpose.
Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell only confirmed that Hegsett would address his senior military leaders as soon as next week, but did not provide further details.
This move comes as Hegsett has fired several senior military officials without explanation since the beginning of this year and ordered a 20% reduction in the salaries of four-star generals and a 10% reduction in other high-ranking officers.
