Trump meets with Pakistani PM and chief of staff at White House

US President Donald Trump met with Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chief of Staff Field Marshal Asim Munir at the White House Oval Office on Thursday.

The meeting lasted more than 90 minutes and the two sides discussed various issues, including trade relations, regional security, and defense cooperation.

Before the meeting, Trump described Sharif and Munir as great leaders, saying: “The Field Marshal is a very great man, and so is the Prime Minister, both of them.”

The meeting, which was warmly welcomed by American officials, reflects the warming of relations between Washington and Islamabad after years of tension.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Vice President J.D. Vance were also present at the meeting.

Sharif praised Trump as a “man of peace” and praised his role in the recent ceasefire between Pakistan and India.

The meeting was held following the recent trade agreement between the two countries and previous meetings on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly.
