Guterres: The world should not fear Israel’s reaction; the suffering of the Palestinian people is indescribable

United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres warned in his speech on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly on Saturday (September 20, 2025) that the international community should not fear the Zionist regime’s reactions to pressure to stop its aggression in the Gaza Strip and the gradual annexation of the West Bank.

“Whether we take action or not, these crimes will continue; we must mobilize the international community to put pressure on Israel to stop these actions,” he stressed.

Referring to the “continuous progress” of the Zionist regime in completely destroying Gaza and annexing the West Bank, Guterres described the current situation as the worst level of death and destruction during his tenure as Secretary-General, and even in his lifetime, adding that the suffering of the Palestinian people is “indescribable.”

He called for an immediate halt to the war in Gaza and called on the international community to take decisive action to prevent these crimes.

These statements come as UN reports indicate that more than 41,000 people have been killed in Gaza since October 2023 and that infrastructure has been extensively destroyed.
