The US National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) warned on Friday (September 19, 2025) that Al-Qaeda and its Yemeni affiliate (AQAP) remain a serious threat to the United States and have resumed their propaganda activities aimed at Western audiences to harm the country.
In a notice to law enforcement, the NCTC emphasized that al-Qaeda and AQAP use their media and global conflicts, especially where the United States has military or political support, to inspire potential attacks.
The center warned that crowded targets such as sporting and music events may be at risk and called on law enforcement to increase their presence and hold pre-event security briefings.
The United States has designated al-Qaeda as a foreign terrorist organization, recalling the group’s September 11, 2001 attacks that killed nearly 3,000 people.
