Ukrainian government warns of risk of further land loss if Kyiv’s defense budget falls short

The Ukrainian government warned that the risk of losing more territory to Russia increases if it does not secure sufficient funding next year.

Ukrainian Prime Minister and Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal announced at a conference in Kiev on Saturday  that his country needs at least $120 billion to fight Russia in 2026.

He emphasized that even if the war ends, a similar amount is necessary to maintain the army.

He warned that Ukraine risks losing more territory if it remains financially weaker than Russia on the battlefield.

These statements were made as Russia’s war with Ukraine entered its fourth year and the daily costs of the war increased from $140 million in 2024 to $172 million in 2025.
