Trump’s Special Representative for Prisoners Affairs meets with Mottaqi in Kabul, focusing on bilateral relations and prisoners
A US delegation led by Adam Bowler, the US Special Representative for Prisoners, met with Amir Khan Mottaki, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan in Kabul.
Former US envoy for Afghan peace Zalmay Khalilzad was also present in the delegation.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced in an official statement that comprehensive discussions were held at the meeting on ways to expand bilateral relations between the United States and Afghanistan, issues related to citizens of the two countries, investment opportunities, and other areas of cooperation in the country.
According to the statement, both sides emphasized the need to continue dialogue on existing and future issues in bilateral relations, especially regarding citizens imprisoned in each other’s countries.
Referring to previous talks between the two sides in Doha, Amir Khan Mottaqi stated that now is a good opportunity to return relations to normal and that there are no complex problems in bilateral relations that are difficult to resolve.
Adam Boller, head of the American delegation, expressed condolences to the families of those who died in the recent earthquake in the eastern provinces of Afghanistan and described his previous visit to Kabul as beneficial.
He added: “Both sides should continue to work hard at past meetings to achieve desirable results.”
Buller also emphasized that the United States respects the right of nations to freely choose and has no intention of imposing anything on the people of Afghanistan.
During these talks, opportunities for developing bilateral relations that benefit both countries were also discussed and exchanged.
This meeting is considered an important step towards improving diplomatic relations between the two countries after the recent developments in Afghanistan.
