Iran and Europe agree to continue talks on the JCPOA and Resolution 2231

In a meeting with European Union Foreign Policy Chief Kaya Kallas in Doha, Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araqchi emphasized the need for this institution to play an active role in line with its duties in accordance with the JCPOA and Security Council Resolution 2231.

Araqchi stated that Iran expects the European Union to neutralize anti-diplomatic moves and adhere to its responsibilities.

Emphasizing Iran’s commitment to diplomacy, he said that Tehran is serious and steadfast on this path.

Kaya Kallas also considered diplomacy and negotiation the only solution to address the concerns of the parties and emphasized the need to create more opportunities for diplomatic dialogue.

In this meeting, the two sides reached an understanding to continue consultations in the coming days and weeks.

These talks took place while three European countries, Britain, France, and Germany, recently threatened to activate the “snapback” mechanism to reinstate Security Council sanctions against Iran.
