According to Reuters, citing four diplomats from Germany, France and Britain, the European Troika will likely begin the process of activating the trigger mechanism to restore UN sanctions against Iran starting today, Thursday.
The three countries hope that Iran will provide concrete commitments regarding its nuclear program within the next 30 days to dissuade them from implementing this mechanism.
The decision was made after talks with Iranian diplomats in Geneva on Tuesday, which European diplomats said did not result in tangible commitments from Iran.
The European Troika has accused Iran of violating the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA) and has announced that they are ready to activate the trigger mechanism to prevent the progress of Iran’s nuclear program.
In response to this threat, Iran has warned that it will respond harshly if sanctions are reinstated.
