Drone explosion near US consulate in Erbil, Iraq
Local and security sources in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region have reported an explosion caused by the crash of a drone near Erbil International Airport.
According to reports, the explosion occurred near the US Consulate in the Ankawa area, and alarm bells sounded in the consulate area, indicating a state of emergency has been declared there.
An informed security source confirmed that at least one of the explosions was caused by an explosive drone crashing near Erbil airport.
It was also reported that one of the drones hit a Popular Mobilization Forces base near the airfield.
Iraqi security forces quickly took action and blocked roads leading to the US Consulate in Erbil to ensure the security of the area.
So far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, and no reports of possible casualties or damage have been released.
Erbil Airport officials have said that the incident did not cause any damage to the airport’s infrastructure and that flights have returned to normal.
