According to an international investigation, since Donald Trump’s return to the White House, the administration has deported more than 25,000 immigrants to countries with which they have no ties; these people were transferred within the framework of Washington’s agreements with third countries.
Data compiled by the Forbidden Stories Media Consortium shows that as of August 31, 2026, at least 25,447 people had been deported to 28 countries; about 20,000 of them were transferred to Mexico, although the U.S. government has not publicly released official figures for these deportations.
According to this study, the United States has agreements with 35 countries to accept deported immigrants and about $410 million has been allocated to implement these agreements; part of this amount is allocated to the receiving governments and the other part to the International Organization for Migration and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
Meanwhile, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit ruled on September 18 that immigrants sent to third countries must be given effective notice and a meaningful opportunity to object to their transfer before deportation, especially if they fear torture or persecution.
