Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, will speak at the UN Security Council’s open session on artificial intelligence and international security next week.
According to Reuters, an OpenAI spokesperson said that Altman will speak in person at the meeting on Wednesday and will focus on international coordination to create common safety standards and efforts to ensure that people around the world benefit from artificial intelligence.
The meeting is being held at the initiative of France, which holds the presidency of the Security Council in September, and will be chaired by Jean-Noël Barrot, French Minister for European and Foreign Affairs.
In the concept note for the meeting, France warned against the misuse of artificial intelligence for malicious purposes and emphasized the safe and responsible development of this technology.
It is also planned to examine the risks arising from the loss of control over artificial intelligence and the use of new models of this technology for actions that could affect international peace and security.
