US President Donald Trump announced that Washington and Warsaw have made “significant progress” on establishing a permanent US military base in Poland, and the location of the base may be announced soon.
Polish President Karol Nawrotski also emphasized continuing efforts to strengthen defense cooperation with the United States and said that the Polish government will provide the best possible location for this base.
Poland had previously called for an increase in the permanent US military presence in the country. Currently, American forces are present in Poland mainly on a rotational basis, and the two countries have discussed in recent weeks the conditions and how to expand this presence.
These developments come at the same time as the Pentagon’s extensive review of the US military presence in Europe, a topic that has increased debate about the future of the presence of American forces on the continent.
